Change The World Mac OS
By default, when you open up a new Terminal window in Mac OS X the command prompt displays a relatively long name:
- I switched to boot to OS 9, that worked fine but I have not been able to get back to OS X. On my iMac G3 with OS X 10.2.8 and 9.2.2 when in OS 9 I can go to Startup disk and chose the OS to boot from - on the above mentioned installation in OS 9 when I go to Startup disk it shows me the disk icon, but no OSs.
- A facility for loading the Toolbox from the startup device was, however, made available, allowing the use of Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9 on New World machines. The New World architecture was developed for the Macintosh Network Computer, an unrealized project that eventually contributed several key technologies to the first-generation iMac.
I prefer to shorten this to a simple dollar sign ($) in order to free up space.
How to change the lock screen on your Mac computer First of all, find an image that you want to use as your new lock screen. Make sure it's a.png file, and fits the resolution of your computer.
To change your default command line prompt, follow these instructions:
1) Navigate to your home directory:
cd ~
2) Create a file called .bash_profile
vi .bash_profile
3) Add the following line (press i
)
export PS1='$ '
4) Save the file (press Escape
, type :wq
and hit Enter
)
5) Restart Terminal
You should now see something like this:
There are other ways you can configure the command prompt (for example, showing the current time), but I prefer to keep it simple.
